Nigerian rapper Mohzix put out a new song titled "Industrips". The new song has been getting much buzz on social media especially Twitter due to the many controversial lines in the song.

In this post, I'll try to pick out some of these lines and make meaning out of them. (PS. They are just my personal opinions).

Generally, the song is about the 'trips' in the music industry, the fake lives most artistes live just to get ahead. Here are a few lines that interest me (every line has something worthy to write about but I'll talk about just 5)

  1. "You drop a song and you want it to blow. You stream it yourself and you think no one will know"
This is addressing some artistes who buy fake streams just to do numbers on these digital music platforms.

  2. "Yes you can rap, but the label demands that you go pop
So they call you the man. They call you the man, to keep it chilled.
But you know it's a scam. You thinking to bounce, but then
You're stuck cos the car might be yours but you live in their house
    ".

These lines are self explanatory. Most of these labels actually recruit artistes cos they can rap, along the time, they would want you to delve into something outside their core genre just so you can go commercial. You have to really "sing" or do a "party" song so they can push it.

They build all the hype around you being a versatile artiste who can rap and sing but that's like too much pressure on you. You want to leave? You can't cos you owe the label a whole lot in 'recoup-able' debts and probably live in their house.

  3. "Paper said 20, but really, it's 5
    Paper said 20 but really it's 5.
Now family call, about getting some doh.
Friends call too, cos I swear, ah dunno.
You in a mess, you working to blow. You working to blow...
    "

Should I really talk about this? Haha. My guess? This is Mohzix taking shots at Payper Corleone  Now family and friends are calling for the dough but he can't be of any help cos he's in a mess and working to blow. That's all 😄

  4. "I know what it is, I'm here on my lane.
I want the money, but welcome the fame.
I'm super man, with no Lois Lane.
Don't give a f*ck what you say on my name.
I never talk, never respond, cos you know, silence can do any job. Send out a message and don't even talk.
Send out a message and don't even talk.
What's with the fakes? What's with the hugs?
We're here for the business, we don't give a f*ck.
We're here for the business, we don't give a f*ck.
It's deeper than vibes, it's Gamble with Life.
Deeper than vibes, and gamble with life.
Deeper than vibes, and gamble with life.
Behind the scenes, it's Gamble with Life.
Behind the scenes, it's Gamble with Life
    ."

The whole of verse 2 sees Mohzix disassociating himself from all the fakes in the industry. He talks about being there for the business (money) alone even as he can welcome fame.
Mind you, he a deal with ROG Music Africa, how possible could it be for an artiste with a label to not be involved in the "Industrips"? Well, I can't tell.

MY VERDICT - Song is a 4 out of 5 (based on production, post production quality and delivery)
