Environmental Stewardship

The article below is a seminar topic researched by Benstowe, Uriah Merit, a 400 level Animal and Environmental Biology student of the University of Port Harcourt majoring in Environmental Biology.

ABSTRACT

Environmental stewardship refers to responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices. Aldo Leopold (1887-1949) championed environmental stewardship based on the land ethic "dealing with man's relation to land and to the animals and plants which grow on it". It is a school of thought that seeks to educate the society on the need for a safe environment; and environment that is devoid of pollution, contamination and other stressors that make the ecosystem unfit for our existence and survival.
